Edited by M. David Blake and debuting in Q1 2014, STRAEON (pronounced “STRY-on”) is our new experimental quarterly series. Compared to STUPEFYING STORIES, STRAEON is the more sober and serious of the two, with an emphasis on longer, more ambitious, more literary, and more challenging stories.
STRAEON 1 is already in production: watch this space for the release announcement, coming soon. Mr. Blake is now reading submissions for issues 2 through 4, and as to what he’s currently looking for, he says:
“No theme, other than whatever appeals to my own eclectic taste. Preference is for SF/F; any other dominant genre must have strong SF/F elements. No reprints, no simultaneous submissions, and no exceptions. We’re currently paying 1¢/word. Multiple submissions are fine. Minimum length is 2,000 words, and I’ll consider anything between 2,000 and 20,000 words, but this is capped at 20K combined per writer at any given time.”
As for what exactly “my own eclectic taste” means, we suggest that those wanting a sneak preview of STRAEON should considering reading the November 2012 issue of STUPEFYING STORIES, as that issue, while not exactly a prototype, was to some extent a dry run for this project.
